6. VJAMM SYNC MODE PERFORMANCE

To perform the clips on lower powered computers you need to either trigger VJamm from Live via MIDI on separate computer or use VJamm in sync mode. If you use sync mode all the audio must be unmuted and sync mode must be checked in the clip inspector. Sync mode sets all the clips running together but silent and black and pressing the keys simply un-mutes them rather than trigger them. You will know clips are in sync mode because the thumbnail letter will be blue:

PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES

We perform mixes like this in a much longer set with many elements being thrown together so we have 2 laptops midi-sync’d together each with same mix in live. This enables us to keep the flow going – when VJamm runs out of video slots the performance moves onto the other laptop. We also mute some of the parts (especially the AV acapellas) and use the versions we cut to DVD (as mentioned earlier) to scratch using the Pioneer DVJ-X1. To achieve this we need a DJ quality AV mixer which simply doesn’t exist so we use the Edirol V4 mixer in combination with a DJ mixer with a midi out (thus making an AV DJ mixer). Currently the only production mixer with midi out is the allen and heath xone92 - otherwise a DJ mixer will have to be modified - a person we know doing this is sleepytom.co.uk
