     2. THE AUDIO MIX

If the audio of the videos you have are part of the video file (as is usually the case) or if they are mp3’s you will need to save them as wav files.

Open Ableton Live, set the bpm of the mix - certain bpms are traditionally better for video tho this is less important now (here’s why) - and then import your first wav. We are starting with the White Stripes because that will form the musical basis of the mix.

In the clip inspector ‘warp’ the song and then start using the warp markers to quantise the music, this is especially important with live musicians because they are always ‘loose’. The technique we use is to select a 2 bar loop and move the warp marker to the heavy transient (the beat) before moving along to the next 2 bars:

When this process is complete listen to the tune with and without the metronome to see if you are happy with the timing and also the feel of the track. Next make multiple copies of the clip and set up loop point around sections of the song which you are interested in, as one would do normally making a live mix:

ZenTV Masterclass Fig 2 - Set Loop Points in Live I have 2 bar loop around a section of the song where the guitar and drums are playing the main riff. This is the area I will sit the Lisa S. acapella on later. Then bring in the track you want to mix over the main track. I have the Lisa Stansfield acapella that I sampled from the 12” (rather than the full song with music I have on the video) and repeat the process.
After the audio mix is complete, next record each clip separately to the arrange page and then render them as separate wavs:
